Hi, any suggestions for 2 channel integrated amps for lsim 707’s under 1500$? Any thoughts on Nad amps? Was considering the c388. It’s rated 150w. Is that enough to power the 707’s fully? Anyone used Nad with the lsim series? If so, how do they sound? Thanks

The Tale Of 5 Tweeters - SDA Tweeter Replacement Guide
Introduction
This article is aimed at those who want to be sure that they are choosing replacement and upgrade tweeters according to Polk's specifications and recommendations. Of course, owners are free to make whatever tweeter and driver replacements/substitutions they wish with their speakers. Some owners my subjectively believe that a non-standard tweeter replacement sounds better.
The five tweeters used in the SDA series are: the SL1000, the SL2000, the SL3000, the RD0194, and the RD0198.
The RD0194 silk dome tweeter is the appropriate replacement for the SL1000 and SL2000. The RD0194 is a drop in replacement for the SL2000, but not for the SL1000 since they are different sizes and have different footprints. Fitting an RD0194 into a cabinet made for the SL1000 will require some cabinet modification.
The RD0198 silk dome tweeter is the appropriate drop in replacement for the SL3000 tweeter used in the fifth generation SDA SRS series and in the RTA 15TL and RTA 11TL. The SL2500 is a cost reduced derivative of the SL3000 design. It was used in the Monitor 2 series speakers and in the RTA 8TL of the RTA series.
An alternative to the newer RD0 silk dome tweeter models is to track down the actual SL series tweeter, but those are not always available. Whatever replacement tweeter is chosen, it is highly recommend to invest in a Dayton Audio DATS V2 Audio Test System ($100) (or a similar speaker tester) in order to make sure that the tweeter is in proper working order.
Table 1 gives the typical electrical performance parameters of four of the five standard SDA tweeters. The nominal impedance of the SL2000 and RD0194 tweeters is 7.5 ohms. The nominal impedance of the SL2500, SL3000, and RD0198 tweeters is 5.6 ohms. The measurements in table 1 were made using the Dayton Audio DATS V2 Audio Test System.
Glossary of terms for table 1:
Qts - A measurement of the total electrical and mechanical control of a driver. (no units)
Qms - A measurement of the control coming from the speaker's mechanical suspension system (the surround and spider). (no units)
Qes - A measurement of the the control coming from the speaker's electrical suspension system (the voice coil and magnet). (no units)
fs - A measurement of the free air resonance of a driver. This is the point at which driver impedance is maximum. It is the point at which the weight of the moving parts of the speaker becomes balanced with the force of the speaker suspension when in motion. (measured in Hertz)
Re - The DC resistance (DCR) of the driver. This measurement will almost always be less than the driver's nominal impedance. (measured in ohms)
Zmax - The driver's impedance at resonance. (measured in ohms)
Le - A measurement of the voice coil inductance. As frequencies get higher there will be a rise in impedance above Re. This is because the voice coil is acting as an inductor. Consequently, the impedance of a speaker is not a fixed resistance, but can be represented as a curve that changes as the input frequency changes. Maximum impedance (Zmax) occurs at fs. (measured in millihenries)
The measured values in table 1 provide some quantitative insight into why the RD0 series tweeters are upgrades to the SL series tweeters and why they are subjectively preferred by many SDA enthusiasts.
Test Tweeters
I had SL2000, SL3000, RD0194, and RD0198 tweeters on hand. I found a used SL2500 tweeter and two new old stock SL2500 tweeters on eBay. As of this writing, I have not located SL1000 tweeters that I felt comfortable with purchasing.

Figure 3. SL2500 left, SL3000 right.
The SL2500 is similar in construction to the SL3000, and could be used as a replacement for the SL3000. However, as its overall lower Q measurements show, the SL2500 has lower performance with regard to driver control. This translates to lower performance in reproducing high frequency speed and detail.
Conversely, the RD0 series replacement tweeters have overall better driver control performance than their respective SL series counterparts.
The dome of the SL3000 has a shiny metallic appearance due to its vapor deposited metal layers. The SL3000 dome is composed of a triple layered (Tri-laminate, or "TL") construction with a top layer of stainless steel, second layer of aluminum, and third layer of clear polyamide. The SL2500 has a dull appearance and has a black polymer coating on the front and rear sides. It is not clear to me at this time if the SL2500's dome has a triple layer (Tri-laminate) structure similar to the SL3000's.

The 1989 versions of the SDA CRS+ and SDA 2B can be modified to support replacement of the SL2000 tweeter with either the SL3000 or RD0198 tweeters. The modification consists of the addition of a 5.8 uF capacitor in parallel with the 2.7 ohm resistor. This modification creates a contour network that corrects the rising high frequency response that would result from installing the SL3000 or RD0198 in these speakers. The SDA CRS+ and SDA 2B use the same crossover circuit.
Phase And Impedance Curves
The following phase and impedance curves for the SL2000, SL2500, SL3000, RD0194, and RD0198 tweeters are given in figures 6-10. In addition to the difference in DC resistance between the SL1000/SL2000/RD0194 and SL2500/SL3000/RD0198 tweeters, the differences in phase and impedance response highlight another reason why tweeter replacements must be chosen with care.

Bravo to Benchmark Customer Service
So I FINALLY got around to hooking up my Christmas present to my Benchmark DAC1...a pair of XLR Shotgun S2 ICs. To my initial dismay...the left channel volume was only roughly half that of the right. Crap. Another 2 hour journey to the nearest electronics repair shop. Think, Kev, think....there must another way! YES....I have it! Call Benchmark and see if they service older products-which they do. I'll cut to the chase...they not even called me back after being disconnected via the always reliable ATT network...he told me to pop the top. Got it. He had me move all 4 jumpers to "10" based on my Cary Pre. I just remembered 10, as I was on my way to swim practice and figured it would make sense when I got home. To summarize....outstanding CS and support from Benchmark. There is a good chance my next DAC will be one of their products. Below are pics of what Im talking about if I lost you in my rambling post:

Recent customer service Dec2019
I am a 30 year customer of Polk. I have there 12” powered sub that has the very common Amp board failure. I was using this sub with 30 year old Nad amps. I started having problems with the sub and thought the amps simply had given up the ghost. I simply unplugged the sub and only used the Tower speakers. Not until I hooked up a new receiver and tried the sub again did I realize it was the sub not my 30 year Nad amps. I contacted Polk customer service the first day no response . I called back and reached a call center in California . The rep on the phone spoke broken english. I explained to her what happened and she said the best she could do was give the amp board to me at $ 150 plus shipping. I paid & 159 for the sub. More emails to customer service and phone calls to customer service telling them I should receive amp board at there supplier cost because I am a repeat 30 year customer. Nope still $150 they did tell me they were doing me a favor it was really $300 ,lmao. They will never receive any of my hard earned money again. Really sad when these companies get bought out and run into the ground. Oh And I just loved the very curt response from a polk employee to another member in this forum.

Announcement: Emojis/Expressions/Reactions Program
The H&M Creative Mischief Design Studio have read many complaints about the forum's emojis. Lack of good ones, too small, can't figure out what they mean. Also not having the ability to subscribe to multiple reactions (Insightful, Agree, Like, LOL) and how the four we have somehow just don't tell the whole story. We came up with the idea of making custom emojis/expressions for clubpolk.

But then we thought, wouldn't a little uniformity be better? Why not use the same face for all. Wouldn't it be great to hire one of those beautiful female runway models? Plus, we were hoping to get a couple dates out of the deal. Unfortunately, after a few calls to New York, we found out that those female runway models make a lot more money than we thought. And we at the studio haven't earned this badge yet:

Receivers have been in closets, on a workbench, and have not been treated like my other audio gear... they are what they are - some scratches and dust, but they do what they're supposed to do. All have been factory reset. One includes a third-party power supply and adapter (original ps died) - works fine. The controller battery lasts for about 5 minutes once removed from the charging base. It's easily replaceable, if you want to order a new one, but I only used it for initial setup of the receivers. After that, I used a smartphone app to control everything.

Squeezebox Classic - $50*
Not sure exactly what version this is (V2 or V3, I think), but this is probably my favorite, just because I like the display. Includes remote.
* All are in working order, and include fingerprints, smudges, small to medium scratches, etc... In other words, nothing's broken, cracked, or dented, but we're talking used here. Still, the Touches and Classic look decent enough to sit with your stereo. Who cares what the receivers look like... They were usually in cabinets or otherwise hidden anyhow. In other words, everything is AS IS. Prices include shipping to CONUS locales only. I don't have original boxes (or maybe I have some), but in any case, will ensure they are securely packed.

Second thoughts on "directaudio.net"
I had the strangest transaction this afternoon. Some of you may have seen the post I made in the Dire Straits Love over Gold thread about purchasing a copy of Mofi Brother in Arms.
I made the purchase from directaudio.net and received confirmation and had a charge on my Visa.
I was surfing for additional albums this afternoon and wanted to check out the Roger Waters Amused to Death 45 rpm box set that will be released soon. I checked Music Direct and it is still showing soon to be released. I went to check directaudio.net and the site said they had it. I thought that was strange and decide to call and check.
I talked with Allen who I had dealings with in the past. They are local so I know them from record shows and they are a rather large Mofi and Analogue Productions dealer. I asked if he had it and he told me he did without checking. Then we got to talking about the BIA I had ordered earlier in the week while he checked on the Roger Waters. He said he noticed I had purchased it and that he pulled the order. I asked him why and he told me that he did not need my business along with a few expletives.
It seems that the last time that Allen and I had a conversation, at a local record show, I told him I had been purchasing my Mofi One-Steps from Music Direct because they were sending the low serial numbers. Never thought anything about this until today. This seemed to cause him a problem because I was not spending all of my vinyl budget with him. Now I have purchased from them many times in the past.
He then told me that I was just a small customer and that he did not need or value my business. I told him that was terrible customer service. He said he did not give me any customer service because he did not want my business.
I found this very bizarre as how do you grow your business without working with the small customers.
Anyway, just wanted you all to be aware. I would think twice before making any purchases from them.

2, 3, or 5 channel amp
Trying to narrow it down! lol
I've loved the Marsh A200S but I think it's time to move on and try something different. The main thing is I want it to be good with the LsiM 703's for 2ch. I can make almost any amp work since I have a 3ch to handle the center and rears if needed. For space, a 5ch would be awesome but not a deal breaker. Price range is up to about $800 or so.

SDA 1C upgrade time
First and foremost I would like to thank all the members here for showing me how to get so much enjoyment out of these 32 year old speakers. Your patience and generosity have been an unexpected bonus. Your help has been invaluable!
Now that I have my 2BTL SDAs sounding amazing they are once again front and center in the living room. Now it is time to get to work on my 1Cs. I did the 2BTLs in phases to get some idea for how the sound was changing throughout the process. I feel no need to do the same thing for the second set. I just want to skip to the end. So here is the plan:
4.4 and 12 uF caps - Sonic Craft
20 uF caps - Clarity PX
Mills resistors - Sonic Craft
Replace seals if needed - Already have Armacell on hand
H-Nuts - PE
Machine Screws - McMaster Carr
RD0194 - Midwest Speaker Repair
I think this time I will order some new boards. I wanted to see how difficult using OEM boards would be. Been there done that now. Everyone advises getting new boards and no surprise, you are all right. But you all already knew that. Using new boards adds a modest expense beyond the boards with the required connectors and hardware.
I cant find the thread anymore, but I recall reading here that someone (maybe @F1nut) recommending using a smaller resistance value for R1 (less than 2.7 ohm) or using a jumper rather than 0.47 ohm resister when replacing the polyswitch. I believe this had something to do with compensating for the more forward mid-range that the 1Cs present.
Finally, I am on the fence about inductors at this point. Seemed to be unnecessary before I experienced the massive improvement in bass response in my 2BTLs. Now I am wondering how much better it can get. I would appreciate any input you all might have on this point?
Questions and comments are always welcome....
Cheers,
Caleb

What did you do to your stereo rig today?
Good afternoon ladies and gentlemen. This thread is dedicated to....well, read the title. Pretty self explanatory.
Today, I measured the distance of the subs/speakers to the listening position down to 1/8 of an inch including the toe in and will be messing around with dialing in the Rythmik F-25's.
What have you done for your rig today?
Tom

Amp Shootout! B&K M200 Sonata vs Belles 350A Reference
Well I picked up a Belles 350 A Reference locally. While my monos were in for a refresh I had a Hafler XL600 and a DH 500 for loaners from Rolland at Hi-Tech Audio. He told me that the Hafler sound was his favorite. Well after a month with them, I have to admit I really liked how revealing the upper registers were. Unfortunately they were terribly lacking in bass and imaging.
Fast forward and after the monos broke in ( beautifully I might add) while enjoying the tunes and surfing Craigslist I came across the Belles 350A Reference. The nice gentleman was the original owner who just never used it since his office has the really nice system. I don't remember what it was but it cost more than my house. He said it maybe had 350 hours on it, had the original boxes, manual and looks new. Not even any dust as he keeps his stuff covered.
The 350A is the match to my Belles 21A so I was hoping for both visual and sonic synergy. Finally got it home today, hooked it up and letting it warm up.
First impression was it had that upper register brightness that I liked with the Hafler. I think a naturally bright speaker would be way too much for this amp. Lower registers and bass control was very nice maybe a little more detailed than the B&K' s. I also think the B&K 's are a little more pronounced in the mids. The B&K's imaging and width of field are a little better as well.
As for which I'd keep and which one will be passed on... Too early to tell!
