Help needed for my Son and Grandson

If you can, please help. My Son, an Iraqi war veteran, has MS and has been off work for 2 months due to a broken bone in his foot. You can read more on his gofundme page.
https://www.gofundme.com/5rde6zc
Every little bit helps, so please donate anything you can. I wish I had a big bank account and could help him more. Everything I have is tied up in Douglas Connection, and I'm sending him what I can, but it's not nearly enough. I'll be listing some cables I have on hand in the next couple of days so I can help him out more. To buy these cables all you will need to do is donate to his go fund me page. That's the best way I can figure to help him right now.

Thank you for anything you can do to help my Son and Grandson.

DSD/FLAC server/ PC set up question

Now that solid state drives are down in price i am working out a new PC for steaming and storing hi-res audio and possibly video to steam to my Yamaha RX-A1050. Its is compatible with dsd and other formats.

Where im not sure is when it comes to a stand alone DAC. Should i get one? Or would the Yammy be upto the task? Would it just be downstream between the pc and the yammy or between the Yammy and the Parasound amp?
Ive never used a stand alone dac.

I was going to try and get a tube dac. Found one by a company called Border Patrol Audio (odd name and all) but their tube dac seems to get great reviews as im sure many do for cheaper than theirs. ($1,400)

Also, does anyone know if Ill be able to put my DVD-Audio disc and SACD to the hard drive?

Would there be anything else i need?

Thanks

Braided wire sleeves

I'll start off by saying I'm fairly cheap. I fully well understand and accept the fact that higher quality cabling makes a difference. I just can't bring myself to spend hundreds to thousands of $$$ on interconnect & speaker cables. I use Blue Jean Cable RCA's because I can hear the difference and still afford the quality. Furez cable splitters & copper banana connectors from Douglas Connections. But when it comes to speaker cabling I buy Belden 5T00UP 10 AWG in a 500' box and use it for in-wall & external speaker connections and make my own cables to the lengths I want. What I'd like to find is a good, flexible, colored, braided sleeve that I can put the 10 AWG speaker cables in for a more finished & professional look and more WAF, which has become an issue recently. I would probably finish the ends off with some shrink sleeve. Who out there in Polk Land is doing this and has a good lead on braided sleeve? Thanks

Speaker Wire - Help

$

Hey guys,

I'm running some Atrium 5's (or 6's) to my backyard from my family room. The runs will be approximately 50' to 100' in distance I would guess from the Amp (HEOS) the speakers. I will have a few speakers inside also and the distance from the amp to those speakers will be much less, probably less than 20 feet.

My question, which speaker wire should I be using. Full disclosure, I've never done this before, I know nothing about speakers or wiring. I've seen some aluminum wiring coated in copper, I've seen all copper, 4-conductor, 2 conductor, all different guages. Cost doesn't matter so much to me as quality.

Keep in mind, these wires going outside will be exposed to the elements slightly, when connecting in to the speakers. I live in a place with cold winters, lots of snow, and very close to salt water, so the wire needs to be outdoor rated somehow?

So if you could advise as to the:
Gauge (12, 14, 16)
2-conductor vs. 4 conductor
Some rating for outdoor use
A trusted brand perhaps

This would help tremendously!

Thank in advance!
Kyle

Why Are The Spaces In Our Signatures...

Twice the size they were a couple days ago? I'm talking about when you push the return/enter key to add a space. What was the reason for the change? To make everyone's signature even longer? It's the little things that bother me.

Formula One 2018

Anyone else excited for the 2018 F1 season to start up?! Only a few more days until the season opener race in Melbourne on Sunday the 25th! Get ready to BRING THE ACTION!

Check out the race schedule here: https://www.formula1.com/en/latest/headlines/2017/9/2018-calendar.html

IMO, the races are always a blast to watch and the tracks are absolutely gorgeous. Anyone who is into cars/motorsports should at least watch a few races this season!

They added these crazy carbon fiber "halos" for driver safety this year! Seems like it would be distracting, but supposedly they don't even "see" the center bar when they're in the zone and racing.

If you're not a huge fan and only watch one race this year, I'd make it Monaco. Gorgeous stunning city street track right next to the marina!

LSiM 705 pair - Mt. Vernon Cherry

For one week only, until UPS comes to pick them up, I have a practically new pair of the LSiM 705 speakers in Mt. Vernon Cherry available to you for exactly what I paid $850.

Best part, they have ~ 150 hours on them so, for all intents and purposes, they’re fully broken in!

No scuffs. No scratches. The OE grills haven’t even been taken out of the plastic.

Local pickup in St. Louis, Missouri only. More than happy to audition them for you.

If you missed out on the deal, now is your chance to snap them up.

If you need pics I can snap some more but, honestly, these are less than 30 days old.

Russ @lightman1 can vouch for their aesthetic condition!

Limited time offer.

So, I said I would never sell these, and I guess it is still a true statement because I am replacing them with the exact same speaker, but they had the covers and such, so... yeah.

Easily my favorite speaker I have heard, perfect size for most peoples house. Excellent bass response to around 30hz, do not need a subwoofer for music. Huge soundstage... honestly just a phenominal speaker.

Sold new for 13k back in 1998, the current production replacement sells for north of 20k …

Weighs around 140 to 160 pounds a piece, has a top notch point to point crossover already... hand made in france…

Truly something you can pass on to your children

So these particular speakers, they are a 6-7/10 - they have some marks and dings here and there, but are overall more than acceptable from a normal viewing distance for their age.

So interesting facts about the speaker

Each enclosure is separate, you can see through it
The tweeters are still available from JM labs, atleast the diaphragm, so in the event you blow one, it is $100 and you pop them in. These are original though as the new ones are a shiny silver.

Each woofer is no longer available from Focal, but they will rebuild them at 75% of the price of a replacement. You simply pay shipping to Focal USA and they actually pay shipping to and from France as they send them by container, takes 2 to 3 months to turn around.

Again, these are original and have not been serviced.

People think the crossover is in the middle compartment, its actually on the bottom and by removing the bottom plate, it is easily accessible for service.

Anyways, fantastic set of speakers. You cant go wrong.

$3,800 + freight (pallet) or $250 for up to 400 mile delivery or meeting

San Diego Gathering - CDP Shootout 18'?

$

Thinking I might try to throw together a gathering in the next month or two (not to take away from or conflict with the SoCal gathering @nooshinjohn has been working on). I just purchased a Sony C333ES CD/SACD player and still have an Oppo BDP-83 Special Edition (has the upgraded 2 channel DAC's). Looking to see if anyone else in the area wants to bring a CDP, compare players and enjoy some good music with fellow polkies. Those that can't or don't want to bring a player are welcome too. I can support 4 players connected to the Pass Labs X1. Let me know if there's any interest. You can see what 2 channel gear is on hand here for the event in my signature.

Just FYI, the last time I did this, @Erik Tracy brought his CDP and we found that it would have been nice to have different IC's to compare the players so we can throw that in the mix as well.

Throw out some possible dates if interested.
