Olive Oil - Store Bought No More

$

We have been buying a name brand, higher priced olive oil for years at the supermarket. I will not name names but it begins with a B......and ends with an i. Kinda rhymes with ravioli.

We got olive oil from California made by the California Olive Ranch and I will never go back to the ravioli brand. The taste was so much fresher and buttery and pure. Just a great EVO.

We eat EVO everyday. I may buy the Bertolli to cook with but will no longer eat it raw. No reason to now.

Cabinet (speaker) finishes

So being in the cabinet industry for over 20 years, obviously I’m a sucker for a good finish on a speaker. I’ve seen many different speakers out there with all kinds of finishes, I’m curious what others think are some of the best finishes they have seen?
For me one of the most beautiful cabinets I’ve seen is on a PMC , walnut twenty.23 to be exact.

Does it make sense at this late stage of the CD game to just buy a new solid
transport to be used with the ever changing DACs that are coming out.

Going the transport route, and I know this is going to be a bit controversial,
you could buy old great sounding CD players that get you 95% there for a
C note or so.

anybody else on the fence?

MagniFi Max SR - Surrounds Popping (despite software updates)

$

The Bluetooth surround sound speakers for my MagniFi Max SR make startling popping sounds periodically and frequently in every form of use, whether HDMI input for a film/TV, aux/Bluetooth/chromecast for music or other audio sources. It was my understanding that this was a known software issue that would be resolved with a software patch. For the last 3 months I have been waiting for this patch, and while it has improved from awful to annoying, the issue persists. Is this actually a hardware issue? Will Polk ever fix this or replace the defective components? What is the time horizon for delivering the product that was marketed? My excitement has turned to disappointment.

Does anyone else have this issue?

Center channel for 2.3 TL

I'm using the 2.3 TL's as my 2ch setup, but they also share the space of my big TV so I'm going to let them serve double-duty for movies.

I have a CS350, and CS400 but haven't used the 400 much as it has been with the RT800's in the game room.

Moving forward, I have a Def Tech Pro 2000 coming as a trial but that may get paired into another system...jury is out until I get ears on it.

My main question is...would a CS1000P blend well with the 2.3's or would the powered subs be too overbearing?

Another consideration based on my other thread is the Def Tech CLR 3000 and while a different design, it uses 6.5" mid drivers so maybe the midrange might blend well, possibly better than a 5- 1/4" driver.

I understand a timbre match is essential, but neither share the drivers of the SDA's so looking for possible user experience on these larger centers.

Perks of owning and operating your own business

Besides the satisfaction of providing a service for people to help them advance their careers and receiving thanks from them for doing so, one of the fun things about owning your own business is deciding what you do with the revenue.

For the month of December, I'm donating 10% of every sale to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. I've created a couple of resumes, conducted a resume quality review, optimized a LinkedIn profile, and have a couple more scheduled--a portion of each is going to them.

'Tis the season!

SDA 1C Question

$

This is my first forum post and I am thankful for any help :-)....I just finished working on an old pair of SDA 2s that I had for a few years, put in new drivers, cherry veneer mdf for the sides, and curly maple tops and kick panel. They were damaged in shipment when I bought them used and it was time to either do something with them or send them to the beyond...

While doing the work on the 2s I came across a pair of SDA 1Cs that were in decent shapeand within a 5 hour drive. Knowing these were held in higher regard and a later generation, I decided to purchase them....my wife is not overly thrilled :-)

For the 1Cs I have taken the following point to point measurements but did not find any table for the 1Cs in the SDA handbook. My measurements curiously are he same for each speaker which is not in keeping with all the others in the SDA series. Infinity was on an Rx1 scale so it may be just taken as out of rangeand being an analog meter the ohm values may not be exact. Note pin 1 is blade and pin 2 is pin.

My readings are as follows.

Reading Left Right
IC Pin 2 to Black 3 ohms 3 ohms
IC Pin 1 to Black inf inf
IC Pin 1 to IC Pin 2 inf inf
IC Pin 2 to Red 4 ohms 4 ohms
Red to Black 5 ohms 5 ohms
IC Pin 1 to Red inf inf

I was wondering if anyone has taken these measurements on a pair of 1Cs? If not would someone be kind enough to take them and post a response. I have checked that polarities of the speaker wiring and plugs to the crossovers and I believe they are wired correctly.

When I A/B test the pair of 2s next to the 1Cs I believe the SDA affect is more pronounced on the 2s which has me a little suspicious. Because the wiring harness and the plugs are all polarized going to the crossover board and each speaker seems to be wired the same, maybe the readings are as expected...not sure. The only way I think they would end up being different would be if the crossover boards were a different PN/design for the left vs right speaker. Thanks in advance for any help.

Hook up of sub-woofer question

$

I have a PSW108 sub-woofer. I'm new to the whole 5.1 surround system thing. I'm confused about why the manual shows for sub-woofer hookup going from one Out terminal on the back of the AV receiver to two In terminals (via Y-split) on the sub-woofer. Why does the sub-woofer have two terminals if it only needs one line out? Currently, since my AV receiver has two sub-woofer Out terminals, I am going from both Out to both the sub-woofer In. Is that wrong? Dangerous? Thanks much for educating me

Are cassettes really making a comeback?
