Is the Polk Signature E series available in the States?

Did Polk Screw Me?

I bought a PSW125 back on 11/14/2011. In February of 2012 the amplifier stopped working so I sent it to Polk and they sent me a replacement on 2/07/12. My first impression after installing the board was that the sub wasn't as loud as before, but I usually keep it pretty low at half volume so I thought nothing more about it unless I was in a blast music kinda mood. I honestly couldnt tell for sure it wasn't as loud since I hadn't turned it up all the way in the 3 months I owned it because of where I lived.

A few days ago I was in a "blast music" kinda mood and turned my system up (sub at half gain still) and there was no booming so I checked out the sub and sure enough the amp isn't working again.

I called Polk, its out of warranty and will cost something around $125+shipping to replace. No thanks.. it'll just break again if it broke 2x already.

I figured I may as well take the amp out and look at it for obvious issues today and what I noticed after pulling the plate off and googling some things is that my board looks like its from a PSW110 not a PSW125. The piece of plastic its mounted on says PSW125V2 but I cannot find a single picture of a PSW125 board online that only has 1 large capacitor... and every single PSW110 picture Im finding online has 1 large capacitor and everything lines up perfectly with my board.

Can anyone help me verify what this amp board is?

Im seeing this guy with a PSW125 now, which also has at least 2 large capacitors which looks like every other PSW125 board Ive come across:

Bias question on a Rogue Cronus Magnum 2

I checked the bias the other day, following the instructions from the manual.

Three tubes went perfectly.

On one, however, when I flipped the bias switch the meter jumped up like it was supposed to. I went to adjust it like the other three, but when I used the tool to turn the tiny screw...the meter didn't move at all. The meter is supposed to move when I adjust the screw. When I flipped the switch back the other way the meter went to zero.

I tried it a couple times and same thing on that one tube. I could turn the screw all I wanted back and forth, but the meter didn't move. Audio sounds fine, so I'm not sure whats going on. Is it the fuse? Is that screw stripped?

Thanks in advance for any advice!

Magnifi Mini Spotify cracking

I've had my magnifi mini for about a month now. Since day 1 I noticed that certain songs casted from Spotify have a strange cracking sound (perfect example is Exit Music for a Film by Radiohead). If I play through any other source i.e. Bluetooth/aux from my phone, I do not have the issue. Even casting from other music sources do not have this issue, ONLY casting from Spotify. It's extremely annoying and makes some songs sound absolutely horrible. Last week I received a replacement unit but still have this issue. Anyone have this problem on their unit? Again, I'd recommend Exit Music for a Film by Radiohead to test if your speaker has this issue. It's quite obvious once Thom starts singing.

Polk Magnifi Mini HDMI ARC Not Working

I have a 2017 Samsung UN55MU9000 tv with a HDMI ARC port, but when I connect the Magnifi Mini through that connection it doesn't read the speaker. It worked for a minute or two when I first powered on the speaker but now it doesn't work at all. Any suggestions?

When you were a kid, what were some of your favorite gifts?

Mine was tie between my first 10-speed bike and a Lloyd's 8-track player with little speakers. I think that cheesy 8-track player launched my audio hobby. My first 8-track tape was Heart Dreamboat Annie.

Odyssey Audio Kismet Monoblock Integrated, external power supply

So, with my separation of my HT and 2 channel, I have decided to go pre-amp-less. This kind of negates my need for this arrangement.

I have been extremely pleased with the sound of this unit, with the external power supplies the background is super black and has an extremely musical sound that just allows hours and hours of listening.

This build is fairly unique in that it is a 3 piece configuration, there is the main unit which houses a monoblock and tube preamp. The secondary unit for the second monoblock and a third unit for the power supplies to the main unit.

Included is the following

Main unit, monoblock and preamp chassis
Secondary unit, monoblock
Third unit, power supplies for main unit
2 x umbilical cables for power supply hook up
2 x power cables
1 x remote control (volume only)
2 sets of preouts
Original boxes
2 x mullard 12au7 tubes
2 x rca clear top tubes
2 x rca black plate tubes

Condition, I would say they are in overall great condition, few small marks here and there and the chrome pillars show some light wear. See pics

VTL 2.5 PreAmp in the House!

First of all, a very special thanks to Doug @gmcman for passing his minty pre-amp on to me. Came well packaged. 2 boxes, the pre was double boxed and padded well. The 2nd, had the remote unit and a bunch of spare tubes!

10 total spares! Here is the breakdown of the spares:

Any comments on these tubes would be greatly appreciated, as I do not have any experience with them, or any tubes for that matter!

The pre currently has in it the a pair of Mullards (M8162) 12AT7, and a VALVO 12AU7 and what looks like a Siemens 12AU7 (identical to the spare listed above).

Gonna hook it up later tonight hopefully, and take her for a spin!

Reference thread (Doug's VTL journey). @gmcman please feel free to share your thoughts!

BTW, yes I am a tube newbie!. Other than the rather interesting experience with the Monoprice amp!

I know this is a bit early as the CES is about 4 months away, however, registration just opened this week. I'm registered and approved, so i'll be there. I even have my hotel (Excaliber Casino) and flight booked. Rates are INSANE and rooms are filling fast.

If anyone is planning to attend and wants to catch up, i'll be there early Tuesday evening Jan 8 and attending CES Wed - Fri. So far, i'm traveling and attending the show alone, so message me if you're going and want to catch up. I do plan on seeing a different show every night, such as one of the Cirque shows and who knows what else.

Hafler 500 Upgrade

Last night I upgraded the driver boards on my Hafler DH-500 to Musical Concepts PA-6 Elite.
Powered it up, set the bias and DC offset. All good!
I plan to put it back in the rack tonight and start the burn in process.
These boards are supposed to be quite an improvement as they are more transparent without adding brightness or etching.
We shall see... :)

Command Bar / Echo Dot Solid Red Ring

I keep having to unplug the Command Bar from the wall to get the built in Echo Dot to reboot as so often when I say "Alexa" to give a command, the light ring turns solid red and Alexa says "I'm sorry, I'm having trouble understanding right now. Please try again later." This does not happen on any other Alexa device I have in my house except for the Echo Dot built into the Command Bar. I have spoken to Amazon's Echo Dot department multiple times about it, but it seems it may be a problem on Polk Audio's side. Please advise.

First of all,,a little entertainment--I was fortunate and got to see him and this band just recently,,here's a ten and a half minute taste.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yowJiQZBXrA

Lets start with tubes. Currently running a Bendix 6106 rectifier and a pair of Sylvania 5965's I'm hoping that Brock,KiekoFGTV and others will chime in,as they have far more experience with tube rolling/schematics in this unit.I have the schematic's and can e-mail them to anyone who needs a set.First and foremost, this thread should be fun,and tube rolling is the easiest, but can get expensive. In the pic's you'll see where I remover the input caps, and replaced them with .22 400 volt Russian PIO(wrapped in black tape-IIRC the case is conductive)They are too big for the board,so I mounted them on the inside chassis, and ran wire from the board to the caps.I think a good cap in this position would be an Auricap and/or Sonicap and a good vintage PIO.

One thing that I noticed,,the Sylvania plates are offset.

Acoustic Panel Build

It has always been my plan to add acoustic panels to my listening room. I decided on DIY panels.

I mean why should I pay retail when I can build them for twice the price? :)

I ordered a case of Dow Corning 705 rigid fiberglass. Each case has six 24 x 48 x 2 inch panels.

4pg8t5kebo2r.jpg

First, I am building two free standing first reflection panels. I need these panels to be mobile and decided to use mahogany for the stands. I started with a tripod plan but decided to go with a simple design using two feet, two posts and x-members.

yqarh0fr76mj.jpg

Shade tree wood shop.

r7jawdjl16v5.jpg

The frame for the fiberglass is also mahogany for the free standing version but just 1 x 2 pine for the wall mounted panels.

ywbuk27u5zd4.jpg

I used jersey fabric to cover the fiberglass. Not good! I wanted something stretchy but jersey stretches too much and shows every little detail though the fabric.

I need some fabric advice from anybody who has built similar panels. :|

I wiped on the first coat of poly and they are going to look great (thanks F1). I will post more photos as I progress.

When I finish the first reflection panels I'll build bass traps doubling the fiberglass to 4" or maybe I will build a couple of clouds for the ceiling.

One thing is for certain. Acoustic panels have made an immediate improvement in SQ and I cannot think of money better spent on a sound system.

Hard for me to believe, but I've been on CP for a year! I still feel like a newbie!

I wanted to express my sincere gratitude to everyone who has helped me along this wonderful journey. Long road ahead, but I'm in good company. I've also made some great friends along the way!

To celebrate, I am offering as Karma, a BNIB shipped, Essence HDACC.

Lots of rave reviews on this baby, but I went a different route (Northstar Intenso), so it's time to pass it along.

As always, pick a number from 1-100, random number to be drawn Saturday night.

Thanks again everyone! Happy Karma!

Enclosures for RC80i speakers?

$

Hey all, first post here and I can't seem to find what I'm looking for, which is admittedly and odd request. I intended to put 4 rc80i speakers into the ceiling of a neighboring business once the remodel was finished. I already purchased the speakers and when I got there this week, they had decided (don't ask me why) to paint the open joists and ceiling black instead of putting up a ceiling. So here's my question:

The rc80i speakers are, from what I understand, made for an infinite baffle type of scenario, but I was wondering if I simply made a 24"x48"x6" box with tons of batting for each speaker if I could achieve a sound that would not be muddy or dull.

Given, the quality of the sound is not paramount here, it's background music for an office and maybe a little more than that for Christmas parties or something similar, but I'm trying to make a good choice for them here. Any help is appreciated.

Which 3 channel amp would you pick to go with my two S55's and my S30 and why.

What would be a good price on the B&K Components Reference 4430?

Thanks, I'll still looking for an amp.
