Happy New Year

My fellow Polkies, Happy New Year and thank you for all the suport over the years I've been here. Man the years fly by. Though some heartbreaking news my family went through 2 years ago I kinda dropped off of posting so much but always checked in to see what my audio brothers were up to. Always a good thing/

This forum has sure been helpful in guiding me into 2 decent rigs, one in my bedroom and the other in my living room. Bedroom rig gets most use but nice having one in the living room too. The advice I have received here has been right on and doubt I'd have what I do have if not for members here. Jesse, Tony B, derron 1B, westmassguy, Russ, oldrocker, Ken S, and my man Mike Sibley, all flat out kick but and really do care. There are many more people I didn't name but believe me this forum and its members are special to me. You have made it fun year after year and telling it like it is is "What it Is" and I love ya all. Thanks to all mentioned and thanks to all I didn't.

I won't go into the tragedy our family endurred Back in Jan 2017 but trust it was and still is a nightmare I deal with daily. I am getting more alive with it as time goes by but I will never be the same I know. Music and my hobby of building one of craziest digital libraries on the planet keeps my mind busy and I have to thank the forum and its members for helping me along the way with that too. Happy 2019 Polkies and your loved ones!!! keep it real!!

U2 Joshua Tree - 30th Anniversary Vinyl

Bought this a few months ago but just listened to it for the first time last night.

There are two LP's with this edition so assumed one LP was the original album and the other was bonus material of some sort. I was only interested in the original album. Come to find the original album is spread over two records here. Was so disappointed. Each side was only 10-15 minutes long. Totally wrecked the the momentum of the original album.

Why would it have been done this way? Have never seen anything like it.

The quality of this pressing is amazing mind you, but will be seeking out a non-deluxe original of it.

What did you do to your stereo rig today?

Good afternoon ladies and gentlemen. This thread is dedicated to....well, read the title. Pretty self explanatory.

Today, I measured the distance of the subs/speakers to the listening position down to 1/8 of an inch including the toe in and will be messing around with dialing in the Rythmik F-25's.

What have you done for your rig today?

Omni SB1 connected to Samsung TV via optics cable. Turn on to watch TV and the Soundbar LED flashes red for about 10 seconds then turns solid blue and white

And so it's here...

Seen this today. Looks like 8k will be completely different HDMI cables. If you look close it says fiber optic HDMI so I wonder how this excatly works? Can you use them in an existing HDMI socket or are these going to be different sockets(that see light) than a normal HDMI socket? Is the light converted at the head of the cable? There is no copper wires or copper clad steel wires in this cable.
Interesting to say the least.

Audioengine A5+ (white)

Hey fellow polkies,

I picked up these white audioengine A5+ speakers a few weeks ago as an open box item from Shoreline Music. They are for all intents and purposes new. I tested them when I got them just to ensure there were no issues and they are cosmetically and functionally perfect. I purchased these for a simple vinyl system at my temporary navy school residence but have decided to go a different route.

I do not have pictures of them currently as I am out of the country until Monday, but wanted to get these posted to see if there was any interest as early as possible. Rest assured they are perfect, all original packaging and accessories are included. I would like to get back what I paid for them and that is it, asking 200+shipping.

Thanks,
Zach

I just got this the other day. This will help a lot on my travels. My last set a Fiio X5 and RHA T20 where stolen from my car when a low life got a hold of My carry on bag.

The Sony sounds great not as powerful as the X5 but will do the job.

What's up everyone?
I just picked up a NAD D1050 DAC to go along with my new quest NAD. Coming From the Pioneer Elite SC-68 which had a Built in USB DAC, I needed a new way to listen to my computer music as the NAD T187 does not have a built in USB DAC.
I'm gonna spend some time tonight and tomorrow really getting to know the D1050. I'll also post pic's as usual.

Re configuring the system

Hello all,
I have so many stand alone subs and since i have built in Subs in the Mythos ST towers I never use any of them. As I was cleaning in the basement I took up my NAD DAC and love having that back in my system. Now I'm considering hooking up my Def Tech Powerfield 15 Subwoofer as a stand alone sun in the room and disconnecting the sub feeds to the Mythos ST tower speakers and letting them run stand alone speaker wire and maybe even drop them to small @ 80hz to see if I can gain some dynamic range out of the internal amps of the Sony 5000es receiver and remove my Marantz Monoblocks. With running the ST's in full range plus using them as subwoofers I felt it sucked some of the dynamic range out of the internal amps. So I added the Marantz monos to regain some of what I felt I lost. It worked great but If I run them in small and run a external sub which has a 15 inch subwoofer I'm wondering if I'll get better over all results?
Screw it over the next week I'm gonna re wire and see what happens. I'm also strongly considering going Monitor audio speakers as I really have taken a liking to them. The Silver series is what I really like and think they would work great in my room. It's been a very long time since I had stand alone speakers with no internal subs and I desire a wood box speaker. The Mythos ST's have been in my system longer then anything I ever owned before due to the sheer ability to play theater at it's best then play music with jaw dropping performance. Truly a incredible universal speaker package BUT maybe I just need to switch it up a bit.
I'll probably bring home a pair of fronts from the Silver line before I move the Mythos series as Music has to equal or better them. If they don't then the Mythos stays once again.
Should be fun.

LSiM center channel and front stage advice needed

$

I recently started my home theater system with a Denon x4400h and a pair of RTI A7s. I was within return period for the A7s when I found a deal on LSiM 705s for just a little more. I’m quite impressed with the LSiM and am definitely wanting to continue with the line for the rest of my system. While I don’t have the finances to do the entire system all at once, I am looking to take advantage of the sale on LSiMs a bit more and get a center channel as well and finish out the front stage.

The issue I’m having is deciding on either the 704 and 706. I’ve tried to do my due diligence on the site before posting and I’ve read the 706 seems to be the consensus but primarily for the “bigger is better” reason. I’ve not seen many comments on the sonic matching of the center to the fronts.

So my questions are, should matching the center to the fronts (choosing the 704c to match the 705s in my case) more important? Or is it more about getting the speaker that’s more appropriate for your viewing/listening habits and room size? OR is the 706c really just a more sonically pleasing speaker?

I’m currently leaning a bit towards the 704c because the money I would save on it would allow me to purchase an amp for the 705s at the same time to get them the power they deserve. Additionally I feel as if my reciever may not powerful enough to properly drive the 706c on its own so I would also need to look at a 3 channel amp (rather than a 2 channel) to provide the power for my speakers in the future if I choose the 706c.

I don’t have a problem with saving up for a nice 3 channel amp like an XPA-3 as I fully understand building a home theater is a process. But if the 704c is a better match to my 705s, finishing out the front stage by getting a center and amping my 705s and being able to move on to other aspects of building my system would be nice.

Line Input Switch

Not much here on CP, but anyone using a switch to select multiple inputs to a amplifier? In my case, I've got the Bottlehead SEX integrated, which only has a single input. Any advice or experience is always appreciated!

For reference, I found this. 4 inputs, single output. Looks solid, with no sophisticated circuitry to muddle things up.

So today I picked this baby up locally from CL. It is literally BNIB! The guy bought this thing and never hooked it up! I'm excited! Never owned a single piece of Mac equipment before.

And, to make this especially sweet and memorable, I used my share (50/50) of the Mrs winnings from Vegas last week!

On the dolly ready to bring downstairs! All 100 lbs of it!
