I got the vinyl and CD. I love it! The music has been in my head since I picked these up earlier in the week. More Country than pop. She does not play her signature fiddle! This is her first record on Capitol Records. She left Rounder. Most of the Union Station personnel make an appearance on the album. I suspect the "Union Station" personnel still are under contract with Rounder but I don't know that for a fact.

Anybody else gave this a listen?

Best FLAC interface?

As much as I love the performance of my Oppo 105 for playing FLAC files off a portable hard drive, I am not crazy about the Oppo interface. Specifically, there is no way to quickly access a specific artist, or search an artist - you have to scroll through all artists alphabetically.

Is there a better way, using the Oppo to access FLAC files?

Budget Upgrades for SRS 3.1tl's

New to this site so forgive me if this question has been asked before. Picked up a pair of SRS 3.1tl's in good shape a last week. Have been enjoying them the last couple of days and decided to see what type of upgrades might be available. Have found a wealth of knowledge on this site but to be honest, money is tight so I have to do my upgrading slowly.

The first upgrade I am considering is the RDO-198's and replacing the original electrolytes with new electrolytes at the same time. The question is, what should be my next upgrade when funds are available (best bang for the buck)? Dynamat? Larry's Rings? Sonicap upgrade?

I would love to do the Sonicap upgrade now but I can't justify spending more on caps than I did on the speakers at this time. I already have the electrolytes on hand so I figure it would at least bring the crossovers up to their original specs.

Thanks

Ceiling treatment - clouds. What a pain.

So I was finally able to complete my clouds installation. It was a PITA.

This installation was fraught with issues.

1. What kind of installation hardware would I need? The manufacturer does not have any clouds install kit that looks remotely good.
2. I have a slight incline to my ceiling, which means I need to be able to modulate the drop from the front vs the rear of the clouds to allow for a flat dropped ceiling look.
3. I checked for studs, to see if I can center than panels to be suspended by studs, lo-behold, my media room's studs are off center and are of no help.
4. Then I realized I needed to install it to the drywall. The panels are approximately 10 lbs a piece... so if I was hanging 6+, that's 60 lbs on the ceiling. I needed good strong drywall anchors on a nearly vertical pull.

So I figured, the best way to do this was to use toggle bolts as they have the strongest drywall anchoring capabilities, I watched numerous youtube videos comparing this to other anchors.

Then I had to find hooks that would somehow install into the toggle bolts, which was not particularly easy to do at my local LOWES as no one there was any help.... luckily I found the right combo.

Then I decided that apparently I'd have to drill a 5/8" hole into the wall, well that would look really ugly and messy with the hooks dangling through, so I bought some washers to clean the look.

Preplanning took me nearly 4 months as little details were annoying, such as finding the right hardware, and even when I found the correct hardware, I would deplete the entire stash at Lowes each time I went and would have to come back the week after for the remaining stash, I did this 3x.

OK, so we figured out how to hang the clouds.... the next issue was - how to determine where to hang them?

Karma: Led Zeppelin Physical Graffiti lp

So my Uncle gave me two big plastic tubs of his and my aunt's old vinyl. In that was this Physical Graffiti album. It's the first release and its in good condition, I've ultrasonically cleaned it as well. I checked the issue serial number and this thing is only worth a bundle if it's still sealed.
Since it's roughly worth the same amount as a new pressing (which I own), I'm going to give it away. It's totally free (if you live in the continental US) for the person who can guess the right number that's between 1 and 20.

TEAC AI-2000 Distinction Integrated Amp

Fellow Polkies,

Offering up my Teach AI-2000 Integrated Amplifier. Can be considered "Esoteric Lite" as Esoteric engineers were "consulted during the design process", whatever that means. The AI-2000 is a dual mono design, 125 WPC at 8ohm and 180WPC at 4 ohm. It is really a remarkable sounding unit at this price point.

I bought as a demo from an authorized dealer (Spiritsound in the NE), I used it a few months before stepping up to the flagship in this line, the AI-3000. The 3000 is better, but not twice as good (as the price might suggest). It is a shame these did not catch on, as they really are great sounding pieces. This one is in great shape save for a few minor scratches on the top plate from its former demo life. Face is pristine. Comes with remote and original packaging and power cord.

Asking 600+ shipping. Local pickup in the Annapolis/Baltimore/DC area is available and encouraged. I was planning on holding onto this as I doubt I'll find the same performance/dollar ratio again but I don't foresee myself building another 2 channel in the near (or distant) future.

Dodge or Jeep?

$

Hello all,
I'm gonna be getting a new Truck in a few months and I can't decide between the 2 I have it down to.
2017 Dodge Durango RT
2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee V8 TrailHawk or Overland.

The Jeeps have so many different versions I really don't know which one to pick other then what Options I want.
Important to me is the following options on either
Hemi , I need it Yes I need it.
Good handling package, like sport mode.
Roof Option, I will never buy or lease another vehicle without one meaning sunroof
Tow Hitch 2 inch, I mountain bike ride and my bike carrier is a 2 inch collector.
Snow White paint
Black out package.
8.4 U connect premium Stereo package
Heated Seats and steering wheel

Thats it, anything else one of them come with I'm cool with it.

I Drove the Durango RT and man that thing is fun to drive. It's a drivers SUV and thats what I'm all about. I could care less about fuel economy and all that crap, I've been doing that for years now and I've been totally un happy with my decisions due to it. So this time F it, I'm getting something manly with some BALLS.

The Jeep is beautiful I looked at the ones at the Auto Show and man they are very nice. Slighty smaller then the Durango but a nicer Interior. The Black stained wood really got me. The seats are very comfortable and I love the way the Grand Cherokee Looks. It's pretty bad **** if you ask me.

I know in history both companies have had their share of issues with transmission and electrical issues but nothing on the market moves me like they do.
The Porsche Cayman and the B&W X5M I like but they get out of my price range. The Jeep SRT is slighty more then what I want to spend but man if I could do it, I just might grab one. That thing is serious and exactly what I would love to have.

I'm considering used which I'm not really a fan of going that route but If I found a very clean low mileage Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT in White with a black out kit , Tow Hitch and a roof option, I might strongly go for it.

But reality tells me I'll be un happy with a used vehicle and nothing short of brand new is going to do. It would basically have to be perfect or I'm out.

What do you guys think of the Durango RT and the Jeep Grand Cherokee with a V8? Same Engine 360 HP

Hello all, please help:
When first turning on the TV, the sound bar works for about 4 seconds and then goes off. I have to press the OPT button 3 times to get sound back. How can i sync it so that the sound stays on when turning on TV? Thank you so much!

Magnifi 300 Watt Intermittant Sound Loss

Hello,

I purchased a polk audio Magnigi 300 watt soundbar with wireless subwoofer yesterday. It is connected to my LG smart TV (web os 3) via an optical cable. The cable has no kinks and the connections on either side are snug. Confirmed was getting a light as well when plugged into the TV.

The soundbar has phenomenal sound but what occurs every two to three minutes is the sound cuts out briefly (approximately 1/10th of a second) and then is back. This doesn't ruin the experience but my OCD for audio picks up on it constantly. Other than that no issues.

I have also played with the TV's options (switched from AUTO to PCM etc.). Not sure what the cause is. This occurs with both videofiles on a USB as well as streaming done via a game console.

The old soundbar had no issues via optical as well (have tried both the included optical cable and the old optical cable from my old sound bar, issue persists).

Any assistance is appreciated.

Thanks.

A worker at my local liquor store turned me on to it and I suggest you whiskey drinkers give it a shot. It's tough to beat, especially for the price. I predict a bottle or two will make an appearance at LSAF.

Courtesy of my cousin. I already ordered a surround kit as the foam surround is failing. I'm expecting it to sound quite good, although I doubt it will outshine my PSA sub. It may find its way into the FS section soon.

Adding a Dedicated Preamp to a HT/2.2 music system?

$

Alright, I'm boggled on this and wondering if anyone has tried this, knows the answer or currently doing this. I thinking of adding a dedicated tube or nice SS preamp to my current system in my sig. which I currently use for HT and 2.2 music. I really want to experiment. Because of the size, layout and acoustics of the room I want to keep the subs in the mix for music so I'd get a preamp with HT bypass and dual outputs.

Many subs have dual (LFE and 2-channel) hook-up....meaning you can hook up the sub to a pre/pro or avr at the same time as a 2 channel preamp.

1.) So I hook up my 2 LFE outs from my pre/pro to each sub as usual for movies. 2.) I hook up the L/R preouts from the pre/pro to the Cinema bypass on the preamp. 3.) Connect the 1st set of L/R preouts on the preamp to my amplifier for my mains. 4.) Connect the 2nd set of L/R preouts to the other mono input of each sub. Left to the left sub and Right to the right sub.

OK. Using the preamp, I believe, is pretty straight forward. The preamp splits the signal between the mains and the subs so I'd use the in internal crossover on the sub and crossover low.

Here's the confusing part for me. If I'm playing a movie with the pre/pro, the pre/pro sends the signal through the preamp but also to the subs through the LFE connection. The signal that's sent to the preamp is passed through but (I believe) is still split going to my mains amp but also the subs. Won't this send 2 signals to the subs simultaneously?

Am I confused or completely missed something?

Back in the day I took some heat for having 2.3tl’s from other high end brick and mortar becuase they did not think they were legit high end. I remember one in particular I was considering buying cables from commented instead of shotgun cables I should take a shotgun to my Polks. Nice!

Anyone else have to defend their Polks?

Boston Acoustics VR Speakers For Sale - Complete 7.1 or Will Separate

Well, I recently got our HT "Back Into Polks" and will need to pass these fine home theater speakers on to the next lucky owner.

I have been using these in our home theater for the past 3 years and loved them. I was content with them, and honestly the only reason I made the change was because I always wanted to try Polk's older LSi speakers. Well, I had an opportunity to make the change and did so.

These are great home theater speakers that pack a LOT of punch for their size. They are the "Video Reference" (VR) series and are very well made speakers that sound fantastic.

I have the following for sale as a 7-channel package for $700 or individually for the prices listed below:
  • VR-M60 (pair) - $300
  • VR-M50 (pair) - $200
  • VR-920 center - $150
  • VR-MX surrounds (pair) - $150
All are in very good condition. I believe there are a couple minor scratches on the piano finish on the 50's and 60's. The MX's are decent, but one of the grills is cracked and has a minor hole in the fabric, but the crack is not noticeable and the fabric still looks pretty good. The 920 is in great shape. The plastic covering on the end caps may need to be re-glued, as they sometimes pull off slightly. This is the best center I've owned! I actually wouldn't be upset if the center doesn't sell.

I prefer local pickup (near State College, PA) but can ship (will pack meticulously for safe transport) at actual cost. If local pickup, I'll include some very nice speaker stands with spikes and mounting bolts for the 60's and wall brackets for the 50's (like these) for an additional $50.

I'll also be in the Harrisburg, PA area next week and can bring them, or will be near Pittsburgh March 6-8 and can bring them along then as well.

Buy my SVS PCi 25-31 sub (for sale here) and you can have it all for $1000. It'd be very difficult to find a comparable 7.1 setup for anything less than that.

I'll try to get some detailed photos added later tonight. Questions/offers, don't hesitate to ask!

But I can say that I will not let these go for 2 chickens and a goat, Russ!

Ampex 351-2 restoration project

Hello,
I've recently begun restoring a classic Ampex 351-2 studio tape recorder that I've been collecting parts for over 10 years. Slowly accumulating NOS motors, head blocks frames, etc. This type of deck was used by countless recording studios to record every type of music you could imagine. The sound of Elvis, Frank, Hank Williams, Miles Davis and hundreds of other icons were captured by decks similar to this one. It was only after convincing myself that I had gathered enough experience with other pieces of gear that I would begin this project.
The 351 electronics is vacuum tube based with a 6X4 as rectifier and 12AX7 and 12AU7 used for the gain stages. I have three of these chassis and have rebuilt the power supply of the one I've shown.
In order to work on the bulky transport I made a rough rack frame on wheels so I can turn it around easily. The upper mechanism is the 351, the lower is another project a Scully 280B which is a solid state classic machine. The final version will go in a nice rack with the associated electronics.
