Gonna play with it this weekend. Start out in the nearfield system, and compare to the Marantz AMP-1 that I have their now. Eventually, maybe, in the living room. Ya never know!

Who would've thought, I'd have a tube hybrid (edited for @codycatalist ) integrated amp in the house!

Thanks Paul for sharing your journey with me! What a ride it is!

And for @tonyb impressions to come!

Some rave reviews out there:

Looking for new speakers

Hello my name is Brice and I’m new to the forum. Looking to upgrade speakers as I have been using my wife’s old box speakers from an old dvd/receiver that she owned when we got together 10 years ago. So I assume anything will be better

Av receiver is a denon avr 591 and I’m just looking for a better sound for our living room 5.1

Room dimensions are 33 ft wide 22 front to back and 14 ft tall at top peak. Ceiling is 8 ft at lowest point and slops the distance of the 33 feet. This gives idea of how open the space is. Listening area around couch would be 16 ft wide and 18 front to back. This is from tv wall to the wall behind couch.

Room is essentially one large open space with kitchen entryway living room with an open hallway at front and back of listening area.

Was thinking about buying rti a1 and csi a4 And getting the rears at a later date

Would these work or is my room too large or to open or are there better speaker choices for my area. Not looking to spend a ton on the front three but if I can find them used or something for around 500 total Thanks

Pairing my SDA CRS with NAD amp

Hello everyone,

I am new to the Polk Audio products and this thriving community.

I recently discovered a pair of SDA CRS in my basement. What a wonderful serendipity!
I've been reading much about these little monsters in the past days and just paired them with my NAD AV-716. So far, they are delightful.

And of course, a newbie's thread cannot be completed without a question about the interconnect cable...

Does anybody know if the NAD AV-716 is common ground?
I've been searching much and couldn't find specific info about this matter online.

Also, any recommendation of a good source for the interconnect cables? I've seen 2 on eBay ($89.95 and $48.95, brand new by different sellers).

Your help is much appreciated.

I purchased a pair of 2.3tl's a few years ago, They had some upgrades done already. Vr3 Fortress 2("SWEEEET & SEXY") RDO-198's, HNuts, Blackhole, new covers. Last year @westmassguy built my Dreadnought (Beautiful job,Thanks again David). They sound awesome...Looking forward to upgrading the 1.2's. From all the post I've read (LOTS) This seems to be a great place to learn and have fun. Such a great group of talented and knowledgeable members. Happy to be here...Thx Guy's

If this is the right place, I'll post some pics later...

OLED vs. QLED - My Observations

While you all can go and research the fundamental differences between OLED (Organic LED - been on the market now for ~2+years (mostly LG), and the 'new kid' on the block QLED (Quantum dot LED) which has just come out recently (Samsung) I am going to relay my experience in examining side by side two monitors of said technologies.

Over the T-Day/Black Sales Frenzy weekend I popped in to my local BestBuy. Truth be told I've been looking at the LG OLED sets since they were first released... just didn't have the cash nor was 4K a pressing priority (very happy with 1080p and upscaled 1080i!) But from initial glance - those 4K OLED displays were impressive!

Then QLED arrived on the scene and I was a bit confused. Sounded like 'technically' OLED was still the better technology but...

This past weekend got a salesperson... we went in to the 'Magnolia A/V' section of Best Buy to fire up content side by side between a LG OLED and and a Samsung QLED set. While maybe the OLED seemed infinitesimally sharper, the QLED seemed to be more 'vivid.' Saleman said, lets up the 'contrast - dynamic setting' of the OLED, which he did which seemed to bring the OLED screen presentation on par with the QLED... with one GLARING observation. With the contrast 'upped' on the OLED, there was over-saturation on anything with greys and blacks. Case in point, the scene was a guy with a grey suite with patterns in the material... it was always darker/almost blackened with the upped OLED contrast - whereas the QLED had no problems displaying the various gradations/subtleties of grey and black.

Now, if you went back to normal contrast setting for OLED - no problems with blacks and greys... yet the screen presentation doesn't seem as 'rich' or 'full' as the QLED presentation.

I don't know enough about QLED to judge motion or other areas of performance... but I must say... I was really taken aback by the poor performance of the OLED technology in the grey/dark/black areas.... especially since the higher contrast performance #s is suppose to make this technology a 'super star' in this area.

I was vastly underwhelmed by OLED in comparison to QLED. This is something I did not expect!

In the meantime, somehow I still make due with my Panasonic Viera 42" and 55" 1080p plasmas...

In no rush to upgrade...

Speaker Cable Length?

$

In a few months we are going to be moving permanently to our vacation home in Colorado. In order to set up my 2 channel system, one speaker connection is going to be approximately 4' from the amp. The other speaker connection is going to be approximately 12' from the amp. Is there any significant reason that I should keep both speaker cables nearly the same length? If I do that, I will have to have about 8' of excess length for the right side speaker tucked behind my audio cabinet out of sight. I'd rather have one cable 4' in length and one cable 12' in length. Any recommendations either way?

Puzzling sound coming from my SDA-1C

Good morning! My name is Diego and I’m writing from Italy. I’m looking for some advices concerning a problem I have since months. It all started with a strange noise coming from my right SDA-1C speaker, a sort of brief "prrr" that sometime I clearly hear while playing music. After this noise happens, I distinctly hear a low frequency reduction then, after few seconds (maybe 5 or 10, sometime more), everything is fine. At first, I thought it could be a matter of connections, so I opened the speaker carefully verifying that everything is ok, no loosing connections or the like. At this point, I think it could be the crossover….but….to be honest I don’t know exactly how to proceed, I mean that I’m not that experienced with electronics. In any case, starting from what I know about and from the drawings I have, I believe that I should look at the electrolitycs capacitors, since the other ones, being plastic type, should be fine. Otherwise, could it be a matter of inductors? Mostly the larger one? Has anyone of you already had such a problem? Is there anything I could be unaware of? Any suggestion will be seriously appreciated! Many thanks. Diego

Denon 1650AR how would it stack up?

$

Hi Still **** around with players How would a Denon 1650ar stack up against newer players such as Marantz SA 8005, NAD 565 and so on sound wise? Before anyone says it (technology, most overused word other then community) I know DAs are different/better?? and so on but because it is newer does not make it sound better.
I had a 1650 ar from 2001 to 2009 and then sold it I brought a bunch of players in including the CA 840 and several of us thought the Denon was better. More harmonically rich not to mention built like a tank. Ended up with a Sony XA 777ES then a Rega Apollo for awhile In hind site not sure they were really more musically satisfying. I suspect the 8005 is the closest thing Thoughts? Thanks

RT55 Crossover refresh

I refreshed the crossovers in my RTE55s last weekend, and took a bunch of pictures. I thought I'd post them here for posterity. It is worth mentioning that the 4 RT55 crossovers I own are identical in every way to the RT55i crossovers I've seen posted here, with the same cap and resistor values as the RT55i schematic. I believe that the crossover alterations mentioned here and in the schematic took place sometime during the production of the RT55, before Polk began producing the RT55i. Therefore, the only differences between the late-run RT55 and the RT55i are the tweeters and drivers.
